Born in Calgary, Alberta, Wendy immigrated to Oregon with her parents as an adolescent and graduated with a BA in English from Southern Oregon College. She spent several years in the San Francisco Bay Area where her two daughters were born.

As with so many artists, Wendy abandoned her childhood love of drawing and art as she dedicated her time to career and family. She spent 18 years in the insurance industry, returned to school to study interior design. Her interest in design naturally led her to rekindle her love of art and she began to take community education classes in watercolor.

Her first introduction to pastels was life changing and while she “putters” at oil painting, pastels are her true love. Her first classes with Susan Olgilvie encouraged her to follow her passion, and further classes with Marla Baggetta and Richard McKinley introduced her to new delights of the medium. Capturing light in nature in a more impressionistic style is an ever evolving goal.

Wendy paints most days, studying and reading constantly, attempting to achieve some “mileage”. It is an absolute, she observes, that the more you paint the more things change, for better or for worse, but always you gain new understanding along the way.

Wendy is a member of the Pastel Society of Oregon. She lives in Wilsonville, Oregon with her husband Dave, a novelist and photographer. When not painting, she is devoted to her grandchildren — doing her best to spoil them.
